Adding to what @Marleac said, I strongly recommend using a client when playing on a server, as it will not only enhance your experience on the server but also make your gameplay much easier, especially in the area of Player vs. Player (PvP). If you are still unsure of which client you should use, I will link you to a thread that I made about what clients are available for "Premium Players" and/or "Cracked/Offline Players."

What client should i use...
Pls recommend me a client for a potato pc with 32bit os... On Tlauncher with optifine i get 50-60 FPS... Whenever i try using forge with mods i lag a lot.
